Task List Filters

Could there be a way to filter tasks by user.... Maybe this function is being saved for custom reporting, but several of my users have asked about filtering all task by their usernames so they can see what they have completed and what's left. (An independent overview if you will)
This would also help management to identify a potential schedule/deadline problem by user.

There are a couple of possibilities (see picture):

    • for your users, there is the 'my tasks' filter on the tasks page,
    • for management, there is the ability to sort the tasks lists by user.

We can also export all the tasks via the API and import them into a spreadsheet.

    Cheers,
    Cameron

I agree these help, but they were asking to see just them and all of their tasks, including completed inactive tasks....
The suggestion I got was for the dashboard to have that capability...
I'm finding that most of my artist get overwhelmed by the interface and have to stick to just their dashboard....I don't think it's a training issue, they are just not technical people....I keep getting the excuse that there's too many ways to do stuff so they get confused easily.... which is why they are asking for a more focused dashboard....

Brooks, sorry, I'm not understanding -- the users want to see all of their tasks, including completed tasks on the dashboard? (The dashboard already lists all of their open tasks.)

Let me know if anyone has ideas to simplify the interface.

Yeah, they are requesting to be able to see their completed tasks on the dashboard, as kind of a measurement of what has been overcome...for just them.

I do have some suggestions coming to me that seem relevant.
IE: Adding the title (of the shot) to the shot identifier in the tasks breakdown...
I'm finding users are finding their comfortable niche in a particular tab of SR and tend to stay there....instead of traversing elsewhere to find information.

What do you think...? Should I open a thread for each suggestion?
    Are these worth your time?

Yeah, everything is helpful. Probably one suggestion per post is best so we can track.

On this issue, can we back up and identify what the real issue is for the users? They really want to see closed tasks on the dashboard? That seems like a really strange and bad idea. I could see adding an "All My Tasks" filter on the tasks page, which I could do without borking the UI, but the Dashboard is supposed to be what you need to focus on. Hmmm. Help me out here.

There was also the management angle in your initial post. Are they handled?

    Cheers,
    Cameron

Yeah...on this issue....I agree with the dashboard idea, however it would be nice to see from the tasks tab a way to filter it down to only one user.....that way management can view an individuals overall progress, and sort by date... without having to scroll through all of the other tasks....

Brooks, this is what I'm thinking for the task filters. See picture. There are separate filters for status, user and timeframe. You could select tasks for a particular user. The checkbox labeled: "Show Nested" controls whether we show tasks on subordinate objects when we are on a sequence/shot/element/asset page.

I agree. I saw your picture. If it works out well, this would be an excellent addition for management and user alike.

Just to let you know, this is still in-queue. We are currently heads-down with infrastructure upgrades.
