References
We use a lot of reference images and video for each project, which are not specific to a shot or task. Is there an area where you recommend we put them? If no, a recommendation would be to have this area somewhere. It could even be part of the Files tab, as long as we could filter for Refs only. For the reference, I would like to be able to send out an email at the time of posting; I think that currently the Files section does not notify by email when a user manually uploads something there.

Juan Carlos,
You can do a couple of things;
Create a note on a sequence, and attach the references to that note. That way you can notify who you want and can have a discussion about the reference.
Create an Asset, (make an asset.type of 'Reference' first) and then you can attach multiple files/images and have discussions about it.
Use the first if you have just a small number of references for shots that are all part of a sequence. Use the second if you have a larger number of reference shots for a given thing. For example, you might have an Asset called 'Helicopter Reference' and you have all kinds of files and discussions around that.
Let me know what you think.

Cameron,
Thanks. Those are good suggestions. I will try what you recommend.
And I will post other ideas here also. It's great that you have this forum to keep the discussion open.

Thanks Juan Carlos. Let me know if you need help setting up an Asset category for reference material.

Cameron,
I tried creating an asset type of Reference but the only alternatives I see in the drop-down are:
3D Models Matte Painting Sound Fx Frame-based footage Timecode-based footage
How do I add the Reference type?

Juan Carlos,
This is how you add additional Asset types:
Let me know if this works. If you like, I can record a video showing the steps.
Cheers, Cameron

Thanks. THe explanation was very clear and I could follow it easily.
There was a problem though. As soon as I clicked "Save" I received an error ("We're sorry, but something went wrong."). The asset type was not created.
Do I need to do something differently?

I can't believe it! I was just going to record you a video and I noticed the same thing. We just pushed out a new version and apparently broke something. We will fix it. Standby.

Juan Carlos,
OK, the fix has been put in. Sorry about that. I've also attached a little movie showing how to add the asset type.
Thanks, Cameron
