Shots section on Dashboard
Hey quick question... we're testing out shotrunner, good so far. Since we tend to do a lot of shots under a short period of time, I'm finding that we will be using tasks less than just raw shots. So, that being said, is there a way to add the Shots to do for an artist to their dashboard page, much like the tasks section?
Thanks
Stephan

Hi Stephan,
A couple of suggestions:
1) Try the "My shots" filter under the Shots tab. It will show you all of your shots, which are defined as any shot that you are the lead on, or have a task for, or have a task for any of the subordinate elements. So, if you tend to just assign one person per shot, you could use the lead field, and see who is working on what that way.
2) If you really want a consolidated view across projects, then you really need tasks. One task per shot, titled "composite" or whatever, would do it. Tasks also give you due dates, % complete and other work related stuff.
We could use the Python API to set up a simple task for every shot that doesn't already have one -- maybe that would help?
Cheers,
Cameron

I originally wanted to use tasks, but unless there's going to be more than one per shot, they seemed like more than we needed. That and the tasks section does not have thumbnails, which the artists really like looking at when they have 100 shots to do.
It's not a big deal to go into the shot section, just an idea.
I think our 3D dept. will end up having a much more task based workflow. But the unique situation for 2D TV houses is that we just get a vast quantity of repetitive shots, like driving comps, for example. So it's best to keep things as simple as possible, with one status option per shot, and a thumbnail is essential for matching angles and such.
The other thing with using tasks is that, once completed, the task is done, but the shot is not, so an artist would then have to deal with updating two status sections instead of one. Again, more built for a dept. like our 3D dept.
Does any of this make sense? I'm rambling!

Hi Stephan,
No, what you are saying makes perfect sense -- I just want to be sure that we've explored all the options before going in and changing the system (which will undoubtedly mess someone else up) or doing Python.
So, it sounds like just setting the Lead on the shots might be the ticket for you.
We can also knock down the number of status options. That is done in that Admin section. Let me know if you want to do that and I'll help you with it.
When you set a shot complete, all the subordinate tasks get marked complete as well.
Also, try the "Update" button on the Shot list. It lets you update the status and add a notation at the same time. The title of the note will appear in the shot list with a date and time. (See picture.) Good for a simple "what is happening on this shot" thing.
Cheers,
Cameron
