hours worked on in task
Hi Cameron,
A question. Is it possible to add a block to the task options which contains the hours worked on the shot? I notice that the percentage complete isn't really what we want. What I would like best would be an option next to the estimated time which contains the number of hours already worked on the task. Is there a way that I can add something like this to my tasks?

I could add an hours worked field easy enough to tasks -- but what I suspect that won't be enough. Aren't you also going to need to display and report on those numbers?
Time tracking is one of the more often-requested enhancements, but unfortunately is a slippery slope. (Whole companies have been built around time tracking -- its a big job.)
I'm attaching a time tracking spec that I put some work into. You can see why I'm hesitant to open this particular Pandora's box.

Time tracking is probably our number one wishlist item for Shotrunner so far. For my company all we really need is a simple field for the artist to put in how many actual hours they have spent on a task so that can be compared to the "assigned" time. Something more robust like what your spec describes would be awesome, but we already have an internal time sheet system for tracking hours for Payroll use.

Would you want the task time tracking to be linked in any way to your Payroll timesheets?
How does the time-tracking at http://basecamphq.com/demos/time look to you?

We wouldn't need it to be linked to Payroll here. Basecamp time tracking looks pretty good and would be more than sufficient for our needs. The only thing I would suggest is that the total time spent so far is also visible when you view the tasks (probably next to the est. time field).

Some simple time tracking will be one of the first things we tackle once we complete our migration to the new infrastructure. We should have this wrapped up in August.
